Our First Creative Hangout

We hosted our very first Creative Hangout with a few lady designers this past Saturday, 3/24 to have conversations on all things graphic design and business. We’ve always wanted to have people over for conversations and this was the best opportunity to do so. In a small way, gathering allowed us to celebrate being women in the creative community of Miami.

Back Story: A few months back, Angel did a giveaway on Instagram for his birthday. He asked his online community to comment about things they would like to chat about for a chance to do so with him. The idea being he’d select a few winners and have everyone get together with us to answer their questions. His selections happened to be all women and we scheduled the hangout for March, not realizing at the time that it would be Women’s History Month.

Once March came around and we noticed the coincidence, we felt we had to celebrate. We invited a few additional lady friends to hang with us as we answered the questions of our winners and any other questions brought into the discussion. Thus was born our very first Creative Hangout.

Together we had conversations about four general topics: Inspiration & Resources, Design in Miami, Design Style, and Pricing & Contracts. We created a presentation discussing the topics (you can download it at the end of this post). We also designed a booklet for keepsakes and note taking (you can also download that below).

Takeaway: In a small way, gathering allowed us to celebrate being women in the creative community of Miami. As a female designer myself, who makes up 50% of ACVDO Co, it’s important for me to maintain community and relationship with fellow lady creatives.

The Creative Hangout Booklet

As part of the Creative Hangout, we wanted to create something special for our guests. To do so, we thought designing and printing a small booklet would be a neat surprise and takeaway. We branded and designed these with the intention of it becoming personal items of our guests, so we left blanks for them to input their names, thoughts, and notes. We also included an overview of every section so that they could go back to it and re-read the content.

Should We Do More of These?

Thank you to everyone that participated and made the Hangout not only a special one but also a successful one. We hope to continue hosting other Creative Hangout events to discuss all things design, culture, Miami, and business. If that’s something that interests you, we would love to know it. These events are successful because of the interest and value you bring to it.
